About
“The heart and mind are like a garden. They can both grow compassion or fear, resentment or love. What seeds will you plant there”?

The art world is a beautifully interconnected space that allows artists to not only express themselves but to draw inspiration from each other. Some of the modern artists that inspire the works of BLJ are BK the Artist, King Saladeen, Basquiat and Kaws.
His mission is to intertwine art to modern life while paying homage to the past. In addition, it is paramount that art is unapologetic and authentic. Embrace the failures in life as they are meant to be, every misstep is meant to be a learning experience. All these elements are unlocked through the practice of mindfulness, thus creating access to creativity, the understanding of self as well as compassion towards others and the human experience.
BLJ’s ability to connect to the impact that art has on the human experience was emphasized in 2018, after the murder of Junior Feliz Guzman, as the original creator behind the memorialization of this young man in portrait form, BLJ was able to witness the way this unified the community. The portrait demonstrated the immortalization this member of the community and brought healing to the nearby residents, as well as the mother of the victim.
The theme of healing and immortalization is carried over into the BLJ’s Apple Series. This series was intended to create an in-depth level of self-awareness and connectedness to the source of happiness found within the collective consciousness. The bright and vibrant colours display the duality of the emotional range that people possess to create space for how multifaceted life. These colors simultaneously are representative of our current phases in life. This expression of collective consciousness allows the artwork to redefine the preconceived notions around the fruit of knowledge. Biting of apple can now be seen as the unlocking of the knowledge of self and others; a kind of awareness that creates compassion and acceptance that is usually hidden underneath our consciousness.
